Craven museum in Skipton is up against cultural titans such as National Portrait Gallery and Young V&A

Tucked away in an old town hall on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, many people may have walked past the Craven Museum without realising it existed.

Now, thanks to a multimillion pound restoration and a council that has bucked the trend for cutting arts funding, the tiny institution is up against much bigger competition for the UK’s museum of the year award.
