Another puzzle in our series inspired by the US – along with some tips on how to tackle it

Here’s another puzzle in our American-style series, in digital and printable form.

Last year, I mentioned the Saturday Stumpers in the newspaper Newsday:

The clues are initially baffling and ambiguous, but yield in the face of an onslaught of hunches, guesses and what-ifs.

My own puzzle is intended to take a few attempts over the festive period – and some rubbings-out.

Every square is part of an across as well as a down answer.

The clues are straight, if at first ambiguous, and crossing letters are much more important than with UK crosswords.

The entries contain fragments of phrases and abbreviations as well as “dictionary words”.

And we’re off!
